Our mission is to inspire students to have a love for STEM. We equip them with the skills needed to become the critical thinkers, creative leaders and technologists of tomorrow. By volunteering with Dreams for Schools, you will be supporting a generation that will be at the head of one of the fastest growing fields.
We have several positions and areas where we're looking for volunteers throughout the year to help support our vision. Generally, our volunteers assist us with our showcase events. The AppJam+ Showcase, powered by Dreams for Schools, is the culmination of a 10-week process whereby college students mentor middle and high-school students in the making of a mobile app. Students get to present their work at a showcase, supported by their parents, school board members, community partners, and congressional representatives.
The Communications Volunteer will help craft Dreams for Schools narratives. Primary responsibilities will include writing compelling stories, researching publishing platforms, and researching potential media outlet partners.
Qualifications: Dreams for Schools is seeking a detail oriented, self-directed, and hard-working individual with good writing, computer and communication skills.
Photographer and/or Videographer
Photography and Videography volunteers help us capture those special moments that our students cherish. Photographers will be asked to take headshots, team photos, general attendee and event photos, and photos of the student's presentations.
Videographers will be asked to film the event, providing a highlight reel of the showcase. Please note that our showcases occur yearly in late May, early June, and early December.
Qualifications: Previous experience in photography or videography and the willingness to work at a free or discounted rate.
Showcase Event Coordinator
We want our students and mentors to have the best experience possible at their showcase, and event volunteers help us achieve this. Volunteers work alongside staff in setting up the event, registering guests, coordinating photos, directing dinner, receiving supplies from mentors, and cleaning up after the event. Please note that showcases occur yearly in late May, early June, and early December.
Qualifications: Good organization and communication skills, an upbeat attitude, and the ability to delegate.
Site Kit Coordinator
Site Kit Coordinators are vital to getting our mentors and students off to a great start! Volunteers will assist in organizing, sorting, and packing essential supplies for each of our teams of mentors. Please note that site kit production occurs yearly in March and September.
Qualifications: Ability to work well with others.
